My Journey: From Village Schools to Engineering Leadership

Hello! My name is Baidyanath Prasad, and I'm an Engineering Manager based in India. I'm passionate about solving problems using technologies that make a meaningful difference in people's lives. With 10 years of experience in the IT industry, I have worked on several products across various tech stacks and successfully delivered them to market. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities for learning, which is what makes this industry truly exciting.

Early Life and Education

I come from a lower-middle-class family in Madhubani, Bihar, India. I completed my primary education through the seventh standard in my village. In 2009, I completed my matriculation from Rama Prasad Dutt Janta High School, Jitwarpur (Bihar School Examination Board, Patna). With a strong aptitude for Mathematics, I chose the Science stream and moved to Patna, Bihar, where I studied Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. After completing my intermediate studies at Thakur Prasad Singh College, Patna (Bihar School Examination Board, Patna) in 2011, I joined Bansal Classes in Kota, Rajasthan, to prepare for the AIEEE & JEE (now JEE Main & Advanced).

Academic Journey

In 2012, I was admitted to B.Tech in Information Technology at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2012-2016). As an average college student, I began preparing for placements in my third year. During my final year, I secured a 6-month full-time internship at a Bangalore-based startup, marking my entry into the IT industry.

Professional Experience

1. Portea (January 2016 - July 2016)

On January 17, 2016, I moved to Bengaluru and joined Portea as a Software Engineer Intern, where I worked with PHP on Laravel. I completed my first project, "Kya Baat Hai - A Portea IVR Initiative," designed for the company's internal non-technical employees to arrange quick quizzes on mobile devices. This project was a tremendous success, with over 15,000+ quizzes completed within a few months. I'm grateful to Mr. Ratheesh P for his guidance and mentorship. During this internship, I also gained exposure to technologies like Ruby on Rails, Python, and Elasticsearch.

2. Nifty Window (July 2016 - December 2017)

In July 2016, I joined Nifty Window as a full-time Software Engineer, working with Java and Google App Engine. I contributed to building dynamic microsites for various clients, managing a portfolio of over 1,000+ websites. This experience helped me develop a strong foundation in technologies, daily workflows, and handling pressure in a professional environment.

3. HomeLane (January 2018 - August 2021)

I joined HomeLane in January 2018, where I built the Asset Platform—a platform for creating and visualizing 3D assets. I worked on multiple projects, including HL-Catalogue and SpaceCraft. This role was pivotal in my career growth. I gained expertise in various tech stacks, including Java/Kotlin, RxJava/Project Reactor, Python, Dropwizard, and Spring Boot. Additionally, I learned about designing and architecting cloud-based applications, specification writing and reviewing, unit testing, and deployments, which significantly boosted my confidence in building end-to-end products. I was promoted from Software Engineer to Senior Software Engineer in April 2019. I led multiple tracks during the launch of D2M (Design to Manufacturing) and was responsible for onboarding the complete woodwork module. In August 2021, I decided to move on for better career growth.

4. Glance (September 2021 - Present)

In September 2021, I joined Glance (an InMobi Group Company) as a Senior Software Engineer. After 9 months, I was promoted to Tech Lead (SDE-3), and subsequently to Engineering Manager, where I currently lead the GlanceTV backend team. I was the first member of this team and contributed to the very first release. Here, I have been involved in end-to-end backend development, team building, and collaboration. The role presents numerous challenges and opportunities to solve problems at scale. If you're interested in learning and tackling new challenges daily, feel free to send your resume to baidyanath.p@inmobi.com. We'd be happy to connect with you.

Looking Forward

Exploring technologies and solving problems has become second nature to me. At this stage of my career, I'm eager to share my knowledge with others, hoping that my posts will be helpful and beneficial. In the coming days, I'll be sharing stories, articles, and code related to both technical and non-technical topics.

Personal Life

On a personal note, I'm a son, brother, husband, and father of two daughters. In my free time, I enjoy cooking my favorite dishes, listening to music, watching movies, playing cricket, and trekking.

That's a brief introduction about me. See you in the next post! :)
